The following article is from 同济设创策展实验室 Author Curatorial Lab

The Tongji D&I Curatorial Lab was launched in 2019 at the Tongji University College of Design & Innovation as an open platform aiming to examine curatorial research as an academic discourse, while exploring the role of curation as a tool and way of thinking about an increasingly complex global landscape. In so doing, we identify, investigate and formulate curatorial responses to compelling questions about the role of design and culture -past, present and future- in shaping our relationships with each other and the planet.

The Lab emphasizes collaboration, both within and outside of Tongji, drawing from the university’s resources to prepare a new generation of creative minds while serving as a catalyst connecting the school with global practices.

教学

TEACHING

The Lab runs a graduate-level Design History & Criticism course that critically explores design histories through alternative approaches and methodologies. Through our teaching at D&I, individual research, and fieldwork, we aim to engage students in expanding and producing bodies of knowledge in both historical and contemporary contexts.

The Lab also undertakes “real-time” research on local, regional and global topics of immediate concern. This year, in our research studio “Art, Shopping and Entertainment in the Digital (and, now Post-Pandemic) Age”, students investigated spatial and curatorial strategies for the increasing intertwinement of culture, retail and entertainment, and its role in defining 21st century public space.

展览

EXHIBITIONS

The Curatorial Lab experiments with exhibition and programming formats to create context- and audience-specific responses to wide-ranging fields of inquiry. With students as active participants, we aim to bring the Lab's research and expertise to real world scenarios.  Our past exhibitions include “Powers of Display” for the 2019 Pan-Tongji Design Week and “Green Spot” for the Future Country Living Festival. In 2019 the Lab also collaborated with the Shanghai Museum of Glass to exhibit new narratives proposed by students from the Design History & Criticism course. We are actively working on exciting, upcoming exhibitions; more information coming soon!
